Claire Alston: MD & founder of Purple Orange
Claire’s first career was in operational management in the financial services and call centre industry. Responsible for implementing major transformation programmes, Claire was a client of learning and development companies. She was so impressed by the impact this people-centred approach could make on team and operational performance that in 2003 she changed course to become a learning and development consultant.
A natural trainer and facilitator, Claire worked with Beacons Learning and Development Consultants for 5 years. She found her niche in the delivery of high impact team, leadership and personal development programmes, working for clients across many market sectors.
“Claire has been in the client’s shoes so has a deep understanding of what the issues are. Many people say this, but they don’t have the level of practical experience that Claire has. Hers is a powerful combination of experience, knowledge and empathy.”
In 2008 she set up Purple Orange Consultants. Claire is passionate about getting people to perform to the best of their abilities. Her mission is to help organisations to perform better by engaging and developing their people; for as Claire says, “businesses are made up of people after all.”
In her spare time, Claire likes to ride her horse and spend time walking her dog.
Richard is passionate about helping people learn and change behaviour through practical experiences. Formerly with Barclays Bank and FI group, he specialises in management and organisation development providing coaching, business skills training and assessment and development centres. Richard is a member of the CIPD, registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) qualified to Level B usage of psychometric tools, and is a qualified NLP Master Practitioner.
Jo is passionate about helping organisations uncover real value through effective communications. Beginning her career in the telecommunications industry nearly 20 years ago, Jo now provides strategic but practical support for businesses looking to improve communication with their employees and customers, particularly those in the facilities management sector and organisations undertaking significant change programmes.
As well as running her own communications consultancy www.twistconsultants.co.uk, Jo supports Purple Orange with the delivery of team and leadership development programmes, strategy communication and facilitation events.
In her spare time, Jo dances ballroom (badly), skis (as much as she can) and sky dives (the wind tunnel variety). More sedate pursuits include gardening and cooking.
Julian’s goal is to make a difference – a difference in the way that people work and interact, so that not only can they do that more effectively, but also do so with integrity. Julian’s first career was the UK brewing industry, working his way up to director level. He now specialises in team and leadership development and facilitation with an emphasis on experiential learning through outdoor activities, drama, art and music. In his spare time Julian works as a senior scout leader.
Michael’s learning and development career began as a technical trainer in the Army. For the last 10 years he has worked internationally as a coach, trainer and facilitator for corporate businesses including IT, telecommunications, construction and scientific companies. Michael specialises in leadership and team development programmes: his approach is solutions-focused – more of ‘what’s working?’ than delving into the ‘problem’. As a senior officer in the Territorial Army, he has real and on-going organisational leadership experience and responsibilities. He is also a qualified high ropes instructor, a keen orienteer, adventure racer and Nordic mountain ski tour leader.
